After a long day at work, I like nothing more than to sit back, grab some popcorn and watch a gripping documentary on Netflix. There’s just so much variety! Murder mysteries, cults, celebrity lives, and much more! You also get to learn about real-world events that had or continue to have a significant impact on us, and let’s face it, it’s a lot of fun to discuss our theories and conspiracies about these events.
This list compiles five of my absolute favorite Netflix documentaries, that are a must-watch!
Whether you’re a fan of documentaries or not, I guarantee these will be a thrilling watch!
Perhaps one of the most famous child pageant stars on the planet, JonBenet Ramsey was an American child beauty queen. That was before she was found dead at the age of 6, in her family’s home in Boulder, Colorado. The strange part? She was found by her father in their basement, 7 hours after she was reported missing. Unlike other documentaries that talk about the actual crime, this documentary takes a look at how the events of JonBenet’s murder have become a point of pop-cultural obsession and conspiracy.
The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann
Three-year-old Madeleine disappeared from the seaside resort of Praia da Luz in Portugal. She was on holiday with her family and disappeared when her parents stepped out for dinner. Nobody ever saw her again. This documentary explores her disappearance, the events leading up to it, the investigation conducted, and the media frenzy around it. If you’re into unsolved mysteries, you should definitely check this documentary out. There’s even a website dedicated to it, created by the McCanns, called www.findmadeleine.com.
Schumacher is a brilliant sports documentary on the life of seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher.
I became very interested in the racing world after hearing my father talk about the greats- Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso, and so on. I used to love watching the Grand Prix with him and highlights from other races on Youtube. This documentary is the perfect watch for anybody interested in Formula One, as it looks into the life of one of the racing world’s greatest superstars.
It also includes interviews with prominent figures in the racing industry including Jean Todt, Bernie Ecclestone, Sebastian Vettel, Mika Häkkinen, Damon Hill, David Coulthard, and Flavio Briatore.
David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet
“We can only thrive if everything around us thrives.”
If you’re a nature-lover like I am, this is a must-watch. Sir David Attenborough is a fantastic narrator, and in this documentary, he talks about exploring our immense planet and the need for its preservation.
It is visually stunning, highly informative, and brings our attention to the ongoing crisis of losing our wildlife.
Blackpink: Light Up The Sky
You’ll definitely enjoy this documentary if you’ve jumped on the K-pop wave recently! “Light up the sky” is a lyric from one of Blackpink’s most popular songs How You Like That, and just to give you an idea of their star power, How You Like That has 113 crore views on Youtube, and the dance practice video has 120 crore views at the time of writing this! They were also the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella!
This documentary takes a look at the meteoric rise of the girl group, their individual hardships, as well as the obstacles they faced as bandmates. Definitely an insightful watch into the behind-the-scenes of a k-pop group’s work!
