Clean up Your Online Presence – FireMe!, SimpleWash, & Vizify

At some point in your life, somebody(other than yourself) will Google you. That is an established fact. Most of us spend the major portion of our day online and it is bound to leave a trace. Those pictures of you, the one time you got drunk, can ruin your college application. What if your boss accidentally stumbles on that tweet you sent when you were seriously frustrated at work? Some strongly worded political opinions might scare off potential networking interests. And you wanna look cool when somebody takes the trouble to Google you.

These are  some tools that come in handy when you wanna look nice and dandy,

FireMe!

You would definitely want to know if a tweet is going to get you fired and this tool will tell you exactly that. FireMe! is a tool from Ricardo Kawase and his team at the University of Hanover in Germany. FireMe! uses an algorithm to find tweets that have the potential to get you into trouble and sends you a warning. If they find such a tweet, they send you a message saying,

Can you imagine if your boss gets to know that you said: ‘I hate my job so much’. You said that on Twitter and the whole world can see it!

You can also go to the site and check their FireMeter! score – your chance of getting fired as a percentage. I scored 3%, so I’m guessing I’m good.

 

SimpleWash

Now, this is where you can do a preemptive strike. SimpleWash is a tool that will let you clean up before anything causes any trouble. You can login to SimpleWash using either your Facebook account or your Twittter account and it will scan your timeline and your twitter feed for potential disasters and will warn you. If you are tagged in a less than appropriate photo or if you’ve posted some sensitive things, drugs, alcohol, profanities, this will give you a heads up before a potential employer finds it. You can run through the flagged content and decide if you want to remove them or change privacy settings.

Sometimes it picks up silly things but it is always safer to err on the side of caution.

Vizify

If you want to put up a show, this is where you wanna go. Vizify is your platform to integrate all your social media activity and any work of yours you want to show case. From Facebook to LinkedIn; from drawing a map of where you’ve been to converting your tweets into cool info-graphics  this is your one stop shop for telling somebody that you are awesome.

There are also Vizcards where you can tell people byte sized stories about yourself.

 

Whatever be the tools that are available, a little vigilance will go a long way. Before you post anyhing, check your privacy settings and just think for an additional moment if you really wanna share that with the whole world.
